Last night’s episode of Scandal was in one word – AMAZING*! I am guilty of being one of those viewers who likes to anticipate what is going to happen when watching shows, movies, or reading books. Maybe it’s because I’m a tad impatient and a wee bit analytical, but dang-nab-it there’s a certain level of satisfaction I get from accurately predicting the outcome. I also quickly become bored with media that doesn’t force me to engage in some degree of detective work – which brings me to this week’s epi of Scandal that had me guessing from beginning to end (with the exception of that parking garage scene with Huck & Quinn/Robin…I so called that!). So you’re telling me the bomb goes off & my fav Byron Douglas may die….WHAT?! I love how Shonda Rhimes plays puppet-master with our heart strings every week, and yet we keep coming back for more – lol! Aside from the drama, love triangles, rapid-fire speaking, and occasional lip quivers – the one thing that amazed me the most was the clever use of camera angles and positioning to conceal Kerry Washington’s pregnancy. I’ve come to affectionately term the show’s pregnancy concealment as ‘The Claire Huxtable Effect’, as it reminds me of the attempts made by ‘The Cosby Show’ to conceal actress Phylicia Rashad’s real life pregnancy. She was frequently filmed in bed, sitting at the table, or more obviously posed seated behind large stuffed animals.
We know what you’re hiding…
Camera trickery seems to have advanced a lot since the late 80’s/early 90’s, as it was easy to forget that Kerry Washington was pregnant. Kudos should definitely be given to whomever is behind directing those scenes, because for Olivia Pope to appear even remotely pregnant would be, in a word, Escandalo!
*The one downside to this week’s and recent epis is the use (or rather lack thereof) of Harrison. He used to be more of a key player, but now it seems he and his gingham shirts are slowly fading into the background. I don’t know if this is intentional, as he has had some public personal problems recently, but I would hate to see his character killed off and not even missed. Just saying…
This is me right now, because I’m no longer blowing my nose every 5 seconds from a cold that I believe was transmitted from one of my darling nieces or nephew over the Christmas holiday…..that & because, it’s FRIDAY!!! Did you miss me? I took some time away from you lovelies to enjoy time with my fam (which included dancing until I was sore to Dance Central 3 – you can’t see me on ‘Da Butt’), and to reflect on the start of a new year. I’m excited about 2013, as it’s the year I turn 30 (a legit adult!), embark on some interesting creative endeavors, and ultimately continue to progress in chasing down dreams. I’m working to put some things into place to facilitate the completion of my goals for the year, and in doing so, have identified things that have hindered my progress in the past. Here are some things that I’ve been able to identify that I want to let go of in the new year:
Procrastination – ahh, we’ve been tight like a grip for many years, you and I. But you really weren’t that great of a friend, as you had me to believe that waiting to the last minute actually worked to my advantage, because I “work well under pressure”. Pish tosh! To that, I say ‘Nay’ good sir – as I end my relationship with you. In 2013, I will strive to complete tasks early – no matter how seemingly unappealing – so that I can move on to the next in an organized & timely fashion. I will also not stress myself out over how “difficult” something may seem, nor will I use that stress as justification to put things off. Shoot, I’m highly capable and with God there’s nothing I can’t do…….and that’s all I have to say about that *drops mic*
Past – *picks mic back up*, so maybe everything in your life didn’t work out quite how you planned or expected. Big whoop – you still have an amazing life and so many things to be appreciative of, and while you wallow in the past you’re missing out on the amazingness that’s taking place right now! Learn from past mistakes and victories and use those lessons as tools for personal growth & advancement to the future you desire. Also leave room for God to make alterations to your plans – and trust the outcome. Bottom line: move on & enjoy/appreciate where you are & what you’ve been given. No regrets & no excuses!
People – I know you can be a little sensitive at times, and you have a big ol’ heart, but that does not justify allowing people to influence your perspective. So maybe he wasn’t the one, or she let you down…..ok, and? No one is perfect, yourself included *gasp*, so you might as well get over the idea now that there is a single person in this world who will never dissapoint or hurt you. Ok, so it happened – what are you going to do about it? You could either internalize those negative feelings and become an angry & resentful person – basically the opposite of who you are….OR, you could simply choose to love. Love when it hurts, when it doesn’t, when it’s reciprocated & when it’s not. You LOVE – 24/7, all day, erryday* – LOVE! It might be hard, and you might feel like crying or uppercutting someone during the process – but you keep loving and watch how your response not only positively impacts you, but the people around you too. And fully expect to receive back every bit of love that you dish out…and then some. God recognizes those who choose to walk in love – guaranteed!
So yep, I’m looking forward to starting the New Year off right! Enjoy this first weekend of 2013, here are some events happening in and around the RVA area. Also, enjoy this go-go classic while I try to remember all of the choreography that ‘Dance Central 3’ taught me *starts stretching*. Have a fabu Friday!
*The misspelling of ‘everyday’ in this sentence was intentional, as I felt the need to pay homage to the unique speech patterns commonly found in my area of origin – the DC Metropolitan Area (otherwise known as the DMV). Stand up!
Is it just me, or is the Elf gif making you dizzy too? Try not to stare at it for prolonged periods of time, and instead – embody his same level of enthusiasm by focusing on the fact that today is FRIDAY!!!! Yes, it’s the Friday before Christmas and the official start of my Christmas vacay 🙂 Whoop whoop! To say I’m excited about this much deserved work-hiatus is an understatement. I am so looking forward to having some downtime to visit my family (and meet my new niece Ryan Mckenzie), as well as catch up on some sleep, continue my ongoing organization project, and to dedicate time towards planning for the new year. I’ll be turning 30 next year, and so I’m trying to approach 2013 with a focus that reflects my coming-of-age, so to speak. Yeppers – I’m excited, and motivated – all at the same *bleep* time (cue Future)….who knew? This weekend should be consequently pretty fun, though I don’t have any solid plans…..yet. But here are some things that I’m contemplating doing in and around the Richmond area. I hope that you immensely enjoy your weekend also, and to end my quasi-boy band dedicated week, I will leave you with my all-time fav Backstreet Boys song. And seeing as it is the weekend & the start of my holiday break – I most definitely want it that way 😉 I’m corny, I know, but this was the jam! Have a fabu rest of the day 🙂
It’s not unusual…..to be excited about a Friday 🙂 This has been a great week for me overall. Tiring: yes, headache-inducing: at times, but otherwise pretty darn great! For starters, I’ve maintained my consistency with blogging. And on top of that, I was able to resist the urge to go postal on someone. Who’s winning…..this chick! So yeah, I’m looking forward to the weekend. I’m not sure what all I’ll be getting into yet, but here are some ideas for things to do in the Richmond area, and have a fabuloso Friday!
It’s FRIDAY!! Last weekend was pretty amazing, and I look forward to this weekend being even more epic. Why? For two reasons: 1) I’m going to my homey’s Ugly Christmas Sweater Bday Party on Saturday, followed by 2) a FREE comedy show Sunday night 🙂 And on top of that, I’m knocking items off of my ‘End 2012 Strong’ to-do list….go ME! If you don’t have plans for the weekend, here are some events happening in and around Richmond:
RVA Grooves ft. Amel Larrieux (formerly of Groove Theroy) on Fri Dec 7th
…and my fav Groove Theory Song (Bryce’s eyebrows are pure perfection….jealous):
It’s Friday! I’m so looking forward to the working session that I have planned this weekend with my homey – we’re combining our powers (a la Captain Planet) & coming up with some new & exciting ideas to execute next year. I would like to go on record as saying that I love the creative & ambitious people God has placed in my life to get things done – you guys ROCK! On top of that – Looper is playing at the Byrd Theatre, which means I get to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt for the low price of $1.99 (be still my beating heart). I would like to honor this momentous occasion with a moment of silence, during which I invite you to gaze upon one of my fav JGL covers…..
Isn’t he a cutie? So yeah, needless to say I’m expecting this weekend to be great in more ways than one 🙂 If you’re looking for fun things to do in and around the city of Richmond – here’s some suggestions. Enjoy your weekend!!
